LIVING IN LAS VEGAS: HOW TO ENJOY THE CITY BEYOND THE STRIP

Living in Las Vegas offers a lifestyle that goes far beyond casinos, bright lights and world-famous entertainment. For residents, Southern Nevada is a collection of neighborhoods, parks, restaurants, shopping districts and community gathering places surrounded by dramatic desert scenery.

Whether you recently moved to the valley or have called it home for years, discovering the local side of Las Vegas can make everyday life more rewarding.

FIND A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT FITS YOUR LIFESTYLE

Summerlin, on the western side of the valley, offers access to parks, shopping, restaurants and nearby Red Rock Canyon. Downtown Summerlin, at 1980 Festival Plaza Drive, provides an outdoor shopping and dining destination popular with residents.

Henderson, southeast of Las Vegas, features established residential communities, recreation facilities and shopping areas. Green Valley and the Water Street District provide different experiences, from neighborhood dining to local events.

The northwest valley, Centennial Hills and Southern Highlands also offer residential environments with their own parks, businesses and community amenities.

ENJOY THE OUTDOORS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

One advantage of living in Southern Nevada is access to outdoor recreation.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, west of the city, offers scenic drives, hiking trails and spectacular desert landscapes. Certain visits require entrance fees, and timed-entry reservations may apply.

Sunset Park, located at 2601 East Sunset Road, provides walking paths, sports facilities and open spaces for family outings.

During the hotter months, residents can explore indoor recreation centers, libraries and other air-conditioned community destinations.

DISCOVER LOCAL ENTERTAINMENT AND DINING

Las Vegas residents do not need to visit the Strip for a memorable evening.

The Arts District near Charleston Boulevard and Main Street features galleries, independent restaurants, vintage shops and creative businesses.

Downtown Henderson's Water Street District offers restaurants and neighborhood entertainment, while Downtown Summerlin combines shopping, dining and seasonal activities.

Exploring locally owned businesses is another way to discover the valley's character.

PLAN AROUND THE DESERT CLIMATE

Summer temperatures can be intense, making hydration, sun protection and careful outdoor scheduling essential.

Morning walks, evening activities and indoor afternoon plans help residents adapt during the hottest months. Fall and spring often provide more comfortable conditions for hiking, festivals and outdoor dining.

Beyond the tourist attractions is a growing community filled with places worth discovering. The more residents explore, the more Las Vegas begins to feel like home.
